LNA MEMBERSHIP CALL TO ACTION - Critical Hearing Tuesday April 3rd at the Capitol

Senate Bill 358 by Senator Luneau would provide for electronic notaries public and electronic notary acts. The LNA legislative team believes this legislation fails to create an e-notary framework that protects the public and is not consistent with our civil law tradition.

The LNA members went to the Capitol Monday to express their concerns about SB358 during our 3rd annual Notary Day at the Capitol. Since that time the bill has been scheduled to come before the Senate Judiciary Committee "A" (where the bill's author is also the committee's vice-chairman). It is currently scheduled to be heard on Tuesday of next week (April 3rd) at 9:30am.

The LNA is asking its members to take the following actions immediately to express opposition to SB358:

1. CONTACT THE MEMBERS OF SENATE JUDICIARY "A" IMMEDIATELY:

As always, a brief note is sufficient. But please make your voice heard to the members of Senate Judiciary "A" (whether by telephone, e-mail or fax...or perhaps all three!). Please encourage your fellow notaries and others to contact these senators, too.

2. COME TO THE COMMITTEE MEETING ON TUESDAY AT 9:30AM AT THE CAPITOL

If at all possible, ATTEND THE COMMITTEE HEARING on TUESDAY at 9:30 a.m. You can multiply your impact by bringing friends, family and colleagues to help express opposition to SB358. You are not required to speak, but you can if you wish. The more people who are able to attend, the greater will be our impact and chances of having the bill deferred and referred back to the Law Institute, where a solution more appropriate under our civil law system is currently being considered. A visible presence of members and others who can stand with us is an absolutely critical part of the LNA's response to the proposed bill.
